Presented to filmmakers, journalists, editorial cartoonists, and hosts of radio and television shows, the awards promote broader and more accurate media coverage of development and population issues. The awards also celebrate individuals who contribute to increased public awareness to the challenges associated with reproductive health and population. Furthermore, they serve the purpose of encouraging journalists, editors, and news directors to obtain a deeper understanding of population issues and to foster greater journalistic standards with regard to reporting.
Awards granted by PI include best radio show, best editorial cartoonist, and best television show, among others. Judges make their selections based on the accuracy and fairness of reports and comprehension by the target audience. Furthermore, judges consider the individual’s contribution to a healthy debating environment for issues like population and reproductive health.
